INTRODUCTION ------------- This document describes how to install the Solaris 10 driver for Keyspan USB to Serial devices and describes how to use these devices under Solaris 10. Users are requested to download the latest Solaris Express build dated (2/13/2006 or later) from: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/solaris-express/get.jsp and install the latest build of Solaris 10 OS on their machines. This installation provides driver support for Keyspan devices USA-19HS and USA-49WLC as part of Solaris. If you cannot install the latest Solaris Express build, you can install two pacakages mentioned below packages over your Solaris 10 installation to get the driver support for Keyspan devices. Packages: --------- 1) SUNWuksp - Solaris driver for Keyspan devices USA-19HS, USA-49WLC available as part of Solaris 10 Express build dated 2/13/2006 or later OR email usb-help@sun.com to request the tar file of this driver. 2) SUNWukspfw - Firmware binary required for USA-49WLC This package needs to be downloaded from the Keyspan website at: http://www.Keyspan.com/downloads/sun/ INSTALLATION ------------ 1. Install the latest Solaris 10 Express build dated 2/13/2006 or later OR Obtain the Solaris Keyspan driver package SUNWuksp from SUN by emailing to usb-help@sun.com 2. If you are using the Keyspan device USA-49WLC, then you will need to download the Keyspan firmware binary file from Keyspan's website for this product to work with the Solaris driver. 3. Determine whether your system is Sparc or x64(or x86) architecture. You can run the command 'uname -p' to get the information from your Solaris machine. 4. Download firmware binary package appropriate tar file SUNWukspfw-Keyspan-sparc or SUNWukspfw-Keyspan-x64.tar file depending on your system architecture. The url for downloading the tarfile is: http://www.Keyspan.com/downloads/sun/ Run tar xvf to extract. The extracted files will be under the directory: SUNWukspfw 5. Remove any old versions of these packages in your system (if any) using following command as super user: # pkgrm SUNWukspfw If you have not installed Solaris 10 Express build dated 2/13/2006 and have obtained the driver SUNWuksp from SUN, then you have to install the driver using pkgadd command. Change directory to where you saved SUNKuksp and run following command as super user. #pkgadd -d . SUNWuksp 7. Then install the firmware binary package for Keyspan device USB-49WLC. This is required only if your device is USA-49WLC. You need to be in the directory where the SUNWukspfw is available and as super user, run the following command: # pkgadd -d . SUNWukspfw 8. Check your installation using the following commands: # pkginfo -l SUNWuksp # pkginfo -l SUNWukspfw pkginfo will dump the decsription of the package installed, driver version, system type and other details. The Solaris driver for Keyspan devices is installed on the Solaris machine at the following locations: On x86/x64 machine: /kernel/drv/usbsksp 32-bit x86 ELF kernel module /kernel/drv/amd64/usbsksp 64-bit x86 ELF kernel module On Sparc machine: /kernel/drv/sparcv9/usbsksp 64-bit SPARC ELF kernel module Some device files will be produced after the device plugged and the driver attached. To verify if the device files were properly created, you can check the following directories: /dev/cua/[0-9]* dial-out tty lines /dev/term/[0-9]* dial-in tty lines 9. You can now connect your Keyspan device to the Solaris machine start using it. USAGE ----- How to run 'tip' to connect to target system through the Keyspan USB to Serial device ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The usual case in which tip line is needed is: You want to use machine A to diagnose machine B, but there are no serial ports on A. You can follow the following steps to set up tip line between A and B. 1. plug a usb2serial adapter to machine A's usb port. 2. connect a serial cable to the usb2serial adapter and the other end of it to machine B 3. run the following command on machine B and then reboot. # eeprom input-device=ttya # eeprom output-device=ttya 4. Add the following lines to /etc/remote on machine A. u0:\ :dv=/dev/cua/0:br#9600:el=^C^S^Q^U^D:ie=%$:oe=^D: 5. Then run tip command on machine A: # tip u0 6. To stop the tip operation, type "~."
